Scope of Project: Attic Completion

Project Manager: Art Blanton

Location: Arboretum area of south Charlotte

Elements: Complete attic storage area into habitual area

Builder’s Perspective: Customer wanted to complete an attic storage area into a suite of rooms for a home office and closets. Two of the most critical elements to overcome in the project were (1) the area, in it’s present condition, was not structurally adequate to support a 2nd level and (2) construction access was not an option from inside the home. To solve the first obstacle, a supplemental floor system was added (by engineer design) to support the new floor loads. The second obstacle was solved by removing a roof gable vent in front of the home and enlarging it to accommodate materials and construction entrance.

The installation of seven skylights baths the entire area with an abundance of natural light throughout the day. The skylights were ordered with low-E tint and blinds to control unwanted solar gain. With customer selected colors, carpeting and skylights you feel like you are enjoying the outdoors while inside.

Cost: In the low $ 40000.00’s

Completion Time: 12 weeks
